Bites and Stings

Homoeopathy is great for taking the sting out of summer’s insect bites. We recommend that you keep the following remedies handy this summer and that your remedy choice is based on the symptoms rather than the type of insect or bite.

When the sting has the classic symptoms of ‘as if stung by a bee’, that is red, shiny and swollen consider Apis; also recommended when the pains are stinging, burning and worse from heat and better from cold.  Apis can be used for wasp and bee stings as well as the stings from jellyfish and centipedes.  Ledum for mosquito bites, insect bites, animal bites or puncture wounds where affected area is puffy, cold and white or purplish and mottled.  We advise a daily dose of Ledum 6c when in mosquito infested areas.  Hypericum for bites and stings from a wasp or spider accompanied by shooting pains.  Also helps reduce the risk of infection.  Nat mur is a good follow up remedy after Apis if symptoms linger.  Hepar sulph if the area becomes infected.  For topical application we have a Bite ’n Sting Balm which helps to soothe insect bites and stings and is a must for every handbag.
