Homoeopathy and Sports Injuries

posted in: Sport | 0

Every sportsperson from the junior league to the elite athlete can benefit from homoeopathy.  We always recommend that sports enthusiasts keep a stock of the following recommended remedies handy in their sports bag.

The first remedy to consider for injuries and accidents is Arnica, use it for bruising, soft tissue damage, concussion and shock. Or Aconite for eye injuries and any shock where the physical damage is not so marked but the person is agitated, anxious and fearful. If the person is cold, clammy and passing out, needing fresh air and fanning Carbo veg. Hypericum is an excellent nerve remedy especially for nerve damage including lacerations, crushed fingers or toes.  Spinal damage.

For damage to bone, tendons and ligaments consider one of the following. These remedies may need to be alternated. Bryonia is suitable for bruises, sprains and even broken bones, where there is sharp pain that is much worse for movement even breathing.  Often needed after Arnica to help reduce bruising and swelling.

Ledum for a black eye, dark bruising, deep red and painful. Requiring ice yet feels cold.  Puncture wounds, animal or insect bites. Rhus tox for painful stiffness from sprains and overstrain or getting wet whilst hot. Despite initial stiffness they are very restless and the pains are much better from movement. Ruta grav for sprains and strains of knees, wrists and ankles with a weak, lame feeling. Suitable for injuries where bones are close to surface for example the shins.

For aching tiredness and muscle weakness after sport Arnica. Stiffness like a rusty gate that loosens up with movement Rhus tox, and Mag phos for weakness, aches, radiating pains, spasms and cramps.
